Coaches

Club Director & Administrator/Technical Director: Stacey Stang
Stacey has over 15 years coaching experience at both the Varsity and Club level. She has been head coach of the senior girls volleyball team at Pacific Academy for 13 years and earned 7 consecutive Fraser Valley Championships between the years of 2003 and 2010, 3 silver, 3 bronze medals and the 2011 gold medal at the AA Girls Provincial Championships. Stacey graduated from Trinity Western University after playing four years for the Spartans. Within her four years at TWU, she held two provincial championship titles and was named a Provincial All-Star two consecutive years as an outside hitter. Stacey is excited to be our Force Club Director 2012-2103 year and is committed to developing the skills of the club athletes, encouraging character development and mentoring coaches.

Technical Director – Brynn Kennedy
Brynn Kennedy (Good) was a member of the White Rock Christian Academy Sr. Girls Volleyball Team from 1998-2003 and during this time she also played two seasons as a member of Team British Columbia and as a member of the BC Summer Games Team, where she was the Provincial “A” 1st Team All-star in 2002 & 2003. She went on the play for Central Connecticut State University, Div. 1, and while she was there, she earned the North East Conference Setter of the Year in 2006 & 2007, the North East Conference 1st Team All-star 2006 & 2007, Marist College Volleyball Classic MVP in 2007, the Marist College Volleyball Classic 1st Team All-star in 2006, the Yale Volleyball Classic Tournament 1st Team All-star in 2007, and the University of Delaware Classic Tournament 1st Team All-star in 2003.


U16 Girls – Tim Funk
Tim Funk has coached at all levels of volleyball from age 11 up to and including university club volleyball.  As a player he played at the university level and internationally in Asia and the USA just a few years after man landed on the moon.   Last year Tim coached the Force 15u team that won Gold in tier 1 provincials (see photo).  He has also coached for Fraser Valley Volleyball club (15u Provincial gold 2010) and Pacific Academy (Jr Girls Provincial gold 2010) over the past 6 years.  Tim believes in player development and provides opportunities for all players to play throughout the season.  All this does not mean very much. I have 3 daughters playing club volleyball so I have no life.  If you join our club, you will have a great experience playing with great girls that want to excel at the sport. 


U15 Girls – Mike Jonker and Hendrik VanRyk
Mike has 18 years of volleyball coaching experience in both the high school and club settings. During this time he has been coaching the girls’ teams at Surrey Christian Secondary (formerly Fraser Valley Christian High), which boasts a very successful volleyball program. He has also been coaching for Force volleyball club over the last 3 years. In his first year he led the U12 girls to a gold medal in the U13 girls Tier 2 championships. Over the last two years he has served as a technical coach as well as a coach for the U12 boy’s team.

We are pleased that Hendrik VanRyk will be coaching the U15 girls team this year for Force Volleyball. He has coached grade 9 and grade 9/10 girls volleyball at Fraser Valley Christian High School, now Surrey Christian School, for the past three years with success in winning the Tier II surrey championships, finishing second last year at the Fraser Valley Championship and eighth in the provincials. Hendrik has also coached club volleyball for two years with Focus Volleyball Club at the U14 and U15 age groups and the Force U13 and U14 girls, winning a silver medal with both teams.  Hendrik is proud to have developed teams that have been competitive and have challenged for both the provincial and national titles. His passion to coach comes from the enjoyment he had playing volleyball in high school and college and the desire to help develop each athlete’s skills at volleyball and as a member of a team to their highest potential.


U14 Girls – Victoria Senges and Stephanie Hamilton
Victoria is currently playing for the Simon Fraser University varsity volleyball team. Prior to this, she played Varsity at Pacific Academy. As team captain, Victoria led her team to 3 consecutive Fraser Valley Championships and three top three finishes at the AA Sr. Girls Provincial Championships. She has coached volleyball camps at SFU for the past three years and assisted with various teams at Pacific Academy.  She was head coach of last year’s Force U13 team and is excited to once again coach with Force this year and use her experience to develop both the skill and character of her players at the U14 level.


U13 Girls – Mike Hamilton
Mike has currently been coaching both school and club volleyball and soccer over the last few years and has
also coached and taught in clinics. This is Mike’s 2nd year coaching the Force Team.
He was part of the TWU Men’s team for four years.
During his time with TWU they won Provincials and finished 5th at Nationals in their senior year.
As a player he was also named to the provincial All Star Team. Mike’s desire is to develop, in these girls, a passion for this game but also to develop character for these girls both on and off the court and with their peers. This game rocks!!


U12 Girls – Steve Scholz and Brad Stewart

We are pleased that Steve Scholz will be coaching the U12 girls team this year for Force Volleyball. Steve played high school volleyball and was a member of the BC Summer Games team. Steve then went on to play soccer at Trinity Western University where he graduated with a BA in Human Kinetics and Business. He also has a MEd. from Washington State University in Sports Administration. Steve also has many years of coaching experience at Pacific Academy with two daughters in the program. His experiences include assisting with the grade 7 girls in 2010 where they took the CESS championship and with the grade 8 girls 2011 when they won the FV Championships. Steve has also assisted with the FORCE U13 and U14 teams, winning silver medals with both teams in consecutive years.  Steve has a passion for sports which stems from his involvement in athletics throughout his life and the positive impact coaches have made in his life. He has a genuine passion to see athletes grow and develop as athletes, people and servant leaders.

U15 Boys – David Higashi
After three provincial featherweight titles and the BIG BLOCK letter from UBC varsity team, David retired from wrestling and taught elementary schools in Surrey district for 39 years. He coached numerous elementary, high school and community sports teams and began coaching his daughter's U13 team, Burnaby Volleyball Club. He also coached his two daughters' school teams to Burnaby/NW District Juvenile and Junior banners. David coached his former students of Erma Stephenson, at Fraser Height High School to Surrey district championship, second place in Fraser Valleys and third place in BC Junior High School Boys championship. He joined the Eagles club and led the U14 team to Western Canada tier two silver medals in 2008. In his second year with Focus club as the head coach of Blazers, the U14 team placed second in the Provincial club championship. Coach D just completed coaching the Pacific Academy grade eight girls team to a successful school season.


U14 Boys – Dan Johnson
Dan Johnson is a NCCP level 2 certified coach that has been coaching for the past 6 years with FVVC Volleyball club. He coached the 2008 U14 Boys to Gold in the Provincial Club Championships as well as the 2012 U16 Girls to Provincial Silver. Other teams Dan has coached include the 2010 AA Sr. Boys Silver Medalists from Langley Fundamental as well as the 2010 Grade 8 Boys Langley City Champions. Dan has also coached the Provincial Beach Champions and National Beach Silver medalists in the U14 boys division. Dan is a former TWU Spartan and is looking forward to coaching the U14 Force Boys team.


U13 Boys – Juliana Penner and Jennica Noot
Both Juliana and Jennica are PA Varsity alumni.  Juliana and Jennica were both starting members of the PA varsity team in 2011 winning the AA Sr. Girls Provincial Championships.  Jennica Noot was named provincial top defensive player. Both Juli and Jennica received various all-stars throughout their high school career.  Presently, both athletes are playing for UFV.  Both Juliana and Jennica bring experience and enthusiasm to Force this year and look forward to developing all members of the U13 team 


U12 Boys - Jan Ellison
Jan Ellison is an NCCP Level 2 coach.  She coached with FVVC Volleyball Club for 8 years and then created/ran and coached Club Titans for the past 3 years.  Jan has also coached high-school volleyball, 1 year with Walnut Grove High school , and the last 7 years with Langley Fundamental.  Over the years Jan has taken her teams to 2 District titles, Fraser Valley Silver, Bronze and gold and last year took her Langley Fundamental Jr. Boys to GOLD at the 2011 provincial Championships.  Jan also created (2002), runs and plays in the Langley Women's Volleyball League.  Jan attended UBC and Carleton University and is a computer systems engineer .... and stay at home mom right now .... the hardest and best job of all.
